I had the pleasure of meeting Mary Ellen Joe. It was more than her amazing smile that impressed me. She is a gifted knitter and much sought after for her Cowichan sweaters. Her enthusiasm and encouragement for the First nations youth to learn about traditional language and dance is having impact on her community. I spent a day with Mary Ellen capturing her on film in various traditional regalia but this image shows the enthusiasm and feeling she exudes when in her presence.
